Family Technology Counseling

The digital age is full of new challenges for families as we become increasing dependent on technology.  Parents want to find balance around technology use and to raise responsible children who can use technology safely.  But the push back from teens and constant development of new technologies can make it difficult for parents to monitor and set limits appropriately.

EMERGE offers a specific form of counseling to help families work together to create a technology plan that achieves this balance.  A professional counselor with training around family technology issues works with families to:

  • Establish ground rules and expectations on tech use

  • Determine appropriate apps, content and

  • Discuss parental controls, content moderation and restrictions

  • Determine consequences for violating screen policies

Developing a family technology plan is a process that takes several meetings to do effectively and involve everyone in a meaningful way.  During the process, we take into account best practices and the latest research on kids and tech use.
